The Riders have gone 12-2 in their last 14 games and <st1:date w:st="on" Month="2" Day="21" Year="2002">21-2-2</st1:date> in their last 25 outings.<o:p></o:p> Last Friday’s 3-1 win in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place> was the Riders’ eleventh in a row away from home, tying the USHL record for longest single season road winning streak. At <st1:date w:st="on" Month="2" Day="15" Year="2001">15-2-1</st1:date> on the season, the Riders have the league’s best road record. The Riders have a better winning percentage on the road (.861) than at home, where they have gone <st1:date w:st="on" Month="3" Day="13" Year="2002">13-3-2</st1:date> (.805).<o:p></o:p> Last Friday’s win was also the Riders’ second in three days over the Gamblers. The Riders defeated <st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City> 4-3 last Wednesday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:City></st1:place><o:p></o:p> The Riders are four points ahead of the Omaha Lancers in the race for first place overall in the United States Hockey League. The Riders have one game in hand on the Lancers. The Riders lead the East Division by a whopping 20 points over second place <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place>. <o:p></o:p> With their next win, the Riders will guarantee themselves a winning record for a fifth straight season.<o:p></o:p> Even after Saturday’s loss, the Riders have gone <st1:date w:st="on" Month="12" Day="2" Year="2002">12-2-2</st1:date> in their last 16 home games.<o:p></o:p> This Friday’s game against <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> is the Riders’ sixth in a row against the East Division. After hosting Sioux Sioux Falls- a West Division team- Saturday, the Riders will play another four straight against eastern foes.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers (January 2) and Steel (October 23 and last Saturday) are responsible for the Riders’ only three losses to East Division foes this season. <o:p></o:p> The Riders have won five straight games against West Division opposition and have gone unbeaten in regulation (6-0-2) in their last eight games against the west.<o:p></o:p> Alex Stalock’s personal six game winning streak and his run of twelve games with out a regulation defeat (10-0-2) ended with last Saturday’s loss to <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Chicago</st1:place></st1:City>. Stalock tied the team record for most consecutive games without a regulation loss set by Dan Tormey, who started the season 11-0-1. <o:p></o:p> The Riders now rank as the both the USHL’s best offensive team and best defensive team. The Riders score an average of 3.83 goals per game and give up an average of just 2.42 goals per contest. The Riders are also close to topping the league in both special teams categories. The Riders lead the way in penalty killing (87.8 percent) but rank second on the power play (19.2 percent), one tenth of one percent behind league-leading <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Omaha</st1:place></st1:City>.<o:p></o:p> The Indiana Ice swept a pair of home games from the Waterloo Black Hawks last weekend. The Ice defeated the Hawks 5-2 last Friday night and 2-1 last Saturday. The Ice is now two points ahead of <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> in the race for third place in the east. However, <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> has played four more games than the Hawks.<o:p></o:p> Last weekend’s wins came after the Ice had gone just <st1:date w:st="on" Month="2" Day="6" Year="2001">2-6-1</st1:date> in its prior nine games.<o:p></o:p> Todd McIlrath (13-28-41) keys the <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> attack. McIlrath leads the league in assists and ranks fourth in points.<o:p></o:p> Czech Michal Borovansky has added plenty of juice to the Ice attack since arriving earlier this month. Borovansky has scored three goals and totaled nine points in just seven games with <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State>.<o:p></o:p> The Ice will play three games in three nights in three different cities this week. <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> will host <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:place></st1:City> Thursday evening and will finish the weekend in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:place></st1:City> Saturday.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:place></st1:City> has won just one of its last seven games (<st1:date w:st="on" Month="1" Day="5" Year="2001">1-5-1</st1:date>) and has dropped ten points behind fourth place Tri-City in the race for the final West Division playoff spot. The Stampede has gone just <st1:date w:st="on" Month="8" Day="15" Year="2001">8-15-1</st1:date> in its last 24 games after streaking to a <st1:date w:st="on" Month="9" Day="3" Year="2001">9-3-1</st1:date> start in its first 13 games.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:place></st1:City> went <st1:date w:st="on" Month="1" Day="1" Year="2001">1-1-1</st1:date> last week. The Stampede ended a season-worst four game losing streak with a 5-1 win over <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:place></st1:City> last Wednesday. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:place></st1:City> earned one point for a 3-2 overtime loss last Friday in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City>. The Stampede was shutout 3-0 in a potentially crucial game last Saturday in Tri-City.<o:p></o:p> The Stampede will roll into <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:place></st1:City> for a rematch with the Bucs this Friday.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:place></st1:City>’ Andrew Carroll (20-15-35) is tied for the league lead in goal scoring, just ahead of teamate Justin Milo (<st1:date w:st="on" Month="9" Day="19" Year="2028">19-9-28</st1:date>).
