The Riders have one game in hand on the Lancers. The Riders lead the East Division by a whopping 19 points over the second place Chicago Steel. The Riders are the only team in the east with a winning record.<o:p></o:p> The Riders clinched the i wireless Corridor Cup with a pair of wins over <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place> last weekend. The i wireless Corridor Cup is awarded to the winner of the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo season series. The Riders have won the first five meetings between the I-380 rivals this season; the two clubs will clash a total of eight times before the end of the campaign. The Riders scored a 3-2 overtime win Friday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place> and a 6-0 shutout victory one night later on home ice. The Riders have brought the cup back to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:City></st1:place> for the first time since 2002.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ game this Wednesday was originally scheduled for Thursday, January 6, but was postponed because of snow.<o:p></o:p> With last Friday’s victory, the Riders extended their team record-setting road winning streak to ten straight games. At <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="14" Month="2">14-2-1</st1:date> on the season, the Riders own the league’s best away record. <o:p></o:p> In the wake of Saturday’s win, the Riders have now gone <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2002" Day="1" Month="11">11-1-2</st1:date> in their last fourteen home games.<o:p></o:p> Last weekend’s games with the Black Hawks kicked off a stretch that will see the Riders play six straight games and ten of 11 against East Division foes.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers (January 2) and Steel (October 23) are responsible for the Riders’ only two losses to East Division foes this season. The Gamblers’ win in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:City></st1:place> earlier this month ended the Riders’ team record-setting run of 17 games (15-0-2) without a regulation defeat.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have won five straight games against West Division opposition and have gone unbeaten in regulation (6-0-2) in their last eight games against the west.<o:p></o:p> Alex Stalock extended his personal winning streak to five games with last Friday’s 28-save effort in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place>. Stalock is now unbeaten in regulation (9-0-2) in his last eleven games and is within one game of tying the club record Dan Tormey set earlier this season by going twelve games (11-0-1) without a regulation loss. <o:p></o:p> The Riders have not given up an even strength goal in their last three games. In fact, they have gone a total of 195:31 since last being scored upon at even strength. Tri-City’s Zach Cohen scored the last 5-on-5 goal given up by Cedar Rapids at 8:55 of the third period of the Riders’ 3-2 overtime win over the Storm on Friday, January 7.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ attack is both potent and well balanced. The Riders lead the league in goals per game (3.9) and can boast 15 different players who have recorded at least ten points, eleven players who have notched 15 or more points and seven skaters with at least 20 points.<o:p></o:p> Matt Vokes had a hat trick last Saturday to lift his goal total to 20 for the season and take over the league goal-scoring lead.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers have won four of their first five games in 2005. A strong start to the calendar year has helped the Gamblers, who went <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="20" Month="9">9-20-1</st1:date> in their first 30 games, climb back into playoff contention. The Gamblers are four points behind fourth place <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Indiana</st1:State></st1:place> in the race for the final East Division playoff spot. The Gamblers have two games in hand on the Ice.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place> split two games on home ice last weekend. A 6-4 loss to <st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City> last Friday ended <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>’s season best three-game winning streak. The Gamblers rebounded to down <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place> 3-1 last Saturday.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers still rank second to last in both goals scored (2.6) and goals against per game (3.8).<o:p></o:p> Special teams have also been a problem area for <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>. The Gamblers are last in the league in both power play (11.1%) and penalty kill (76.7%) efficiency.<o:p></o:p> Goaltender Zane Kalemba has been a workhorse for the Gamblers since being acquired from the Tri-City Storm in a late November trade. Kalemba has gone <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="6" Month="6">6-6-1</st1:date> with an impressive .910 save percentage while playing in 14 of 16 games since arriving in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>. Kalemba has given up two goals or fewer in four of his last five games. He stopped a season high 47 shots in Saturday’s win over <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place>.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place> won two of three games last weekend. The Steel defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede 4-2 last Friday, fell to <st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City> 3-2 the following evening and won 4-2 at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Indiana</st1:State></st1:place> yesterday.<o:p></o:p> The Steel has gone just <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2000" Day="8" Month="5">5-8-0</st1:date> in its last 13 games after starting the season <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2000" Day="10" Month="13">13-10-0</st1:date>. <o:p></o:p> Yesterday’s victory ended the Steel’s five game road losing streak.
