RoughRiders, Jaycees Team Up For Monthly Food Drive Night Saturday to Benefit HACAP Foor Reservoir
<P>January 11, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, in cooperation with the Cedar Rapids Jaycees, will host their January food drive night this Saturday when the RoughRiders host the Waterloo Black Hawks at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena at 7:05PM. </P>
<P>The Riders and the Jaycees are teaming up for monthly food drives throughout the season to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders’ first Saturday home game of each month.</P>
<P>The RoughRiders collected over 1,500 pounds of food so far this season.</P>
<P>“We’re excited about how well our ongoing efforts in cooperation with the Jaycees and the HACAP Food Reservoir are doing,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. “We are very happy to be able to give back to the community in this way.”</P>
<P>The Cedar Rapids chapter of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) is a community-based leadership training organization for men and women age 21-39. Through serving the Cedar Rapids area in a variety of projects and programs, young people have the opportunity to develop their leadership and business skills. The Jaycees are the organization of choice for young men and women who want the best opportunities for leadership development, volunteerism and community service.</P>
<P>HACAP- Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc.- is celebrating its thirty-eighth year of providing services to eliminate the causes of poverty in Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties. The mission of HACAP is to promote economic and emotional strength toward a goal of self-sufficiency for disadvantaged people in our communities.</P>
<P>The HACAP Food Reservoir is a member of America’s Second Harvest Food Bank Network. The Food Reservoir channels donated products to area soup kitchens, pantries, homeless shelters, day care centers and other nonprofit food programs that feed the needy.</P>
<P>The league-leading RoughRiders (24-4-3, 51 points) are back in action this Friday evening when they face the Black Hawks in Waterloo at 7:05 before returning home for Saturday night’s rematch with the Hawks.</P>
<P>Tickets for RoughRider home games- including Saturday’s game- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
