The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will begin the process of restocking their roster for the 2008-09 season with tomorrow’s United States Hockey League draft.
The RoughRiders will have the seventh pick in each of the first three rounds of the draft. The Riders will select eighth beginning in round four (the expansion Fargo Force will not start drafting until the fourth round).
The draft order is determined using the reverse order of the 2007-08 USHL standings. The RoughRiders finished fifth overall among twelve teams last season.
The Green Bay Gamblers, who finished last in the league last season, will have the first choice. Again this year, fans can follow the draft online at www.ushldraft.com beginning at 9:00AM.
Players under age 21 who played high school, midget, junior (outside the USHL) or even college hockey last season are all eligible for the draft.
The Riders’ draft picks will join the team’s veterans and affiliated players on the Cedar Rapids protected list. The draftees will compete for roster spots with the veterans and affiliated players as well as a group of undrafted players at the club’s 2008 try-out camp May 30 to June 1 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
