John Kemp scored one goal and collected three assists and T.J. Syner scored twice and added one assist as the host Indiana Ice defeated the RoughRiders 6-3 Saturday night.
After the Riders rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at two in the second period, the Ice would bounce back to outscore Cedar Rapids 4-1 the rest of the way. Paul Carey’s 5-on-3 power play goal gave Indiana a 3-2 lead at 12:45 of the second. Just 1:27 later Jake Skjodt tipped in what would prove to be the game winning goal.
Ian Slater’s solo rush cut the gap to 4-3 at 6:54 of the third period, but Syner would strike at 9:42 and 15:54 of the third- assisted by Kemp on both occasions- to wrap up the win for Indiana.
Early on the Ice had jumped on the Riders for two goals in nine seconds. Indiana was on the power play when Kemp’s blast made it 1-0 4:56 into the game. The Ice had barely finished celebrating that goal when Brandon Blandina buried a rebound at 5:05.
The Riders got on the scoreboard for the first time at 13:05 of the first period while up two men. Matt Donovan’s goal from the left wing circle cut the Ice lead to 2-1.
Another Cedar Rapids power play goal evened the score at two at 8:02 of the second period as Scott Mathis’s blue line blast sailed past Indiana goaltender Scott Darling.
