RoughRider Alum Wietecha Named CCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Scott Wietecha, now a freshman at Ferris State University, has been named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week.

Wietecha, 20, assisted on one game winning goal and scored the other as Ferris State swept fifth-ranked Miami (Ohio) last weekend. The Wolverine Lake, Michigan, native picked up an assist on the deciding goal in a 6-5 Bulldog win last Friday; one night later he provided the winner himself in a 3-1 victory.

On the season Wietecha has scored four goals and totaled ten points in 27 games. He ranks second among FSU defensemen in points.

Wietecha, who was a Rider co-captain last year, spent two seasons in Cedar Rapids. He scored 12 goals and totaled 26 points in 93 career United States Hockey League games. Last season Wietecha (11-21-32) finished tied for fourth among USHL defensemen in goals.

The RoughRiders (27-14-2, 56 points) are currently in second place in the USHL’s East Division. The Riders return to action with a home-and-home series against the east-leading Indiana Ice this weekend. The Riders will host the Ice Friday evening at 7:05 before travelling to Indianapolis for a rematch one night later. Tickets for all remaining RoughRider regular season home games- including Friday’s game- are now on sale.

Tickets are available for purchase in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game days.
