David Grun scored two goals and Max Strang made 25 saves as the host Sioux Falls Stampede defeated the RoughRiders 5-1 Friday night.
The Stampede had the edge in play in the first period- Sioux Falls outshot the Riders 17-7 in the opening 20 minutes- and turned that advantage into a 2-0 lead.
Robbie Vrolyk jumped on a loose puck in the slot to give Sioux Falls a 1-0 lead at 11:18 of the first. The Stampede doubled the lead with just 8.9 seconds left in the period when Grun jammed the puck in in a goalmouth scramble.
At 5:39 of the second period Grun finished a 2-on-1 rush to widen the gap to 3-0.
Jake Hansen scored the fourth Sioux Falls goal with a drive from the high slot at 4:18 of the third period. The Riders got on the scoreboard for the first time just over a minute later when Nick Oddo fired the puck home off the post, but Patrick Divjak would cap of the night for the Stampede by making it 5-1 at 15:13 of the third period.
