The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders’ Tyler Thompson, Doug Jones, David Boehm, Matt Tomassoni and Brady Hjelle helped the East Division to a 6-5 shootout win over the West Division in tonight’s United States Hockey League Prospects/All-Star Game.
Jones and Boehm assisted as Thompson scored the East’s fifth and final regulation goal at 6:28 of the second period. Thompson also had a chance in the shootout, but could not convert his penalty shot. The East was still able to take the shootout 2-0.
Hjelle started in goal for the East and played the first half of the game. The first year netminder made 11 saves and gave up four goals before being replaced by Matt DiGirolamo of the Waterloo Black Hawks.
Defenseman Tomassoni also did his part for the East, turning in a solid performance battling a West Division lineup laden with offensive firepower.
The RoughRiders (23-11-1, 47 points) are currently in second place in the USHL’s East Division.
