Pasquale Terrazzano made 30 saves and Elias Biachi scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets hung on to defeat the host RoughRiders 4-3 Saturday night.
The Riders battled back from a 4-1 deficit with third period goals from Matt Donovan and Bryce Aneloski, but were unable to produce a tying goal, despite several close calls.
The Riders were on the power play when Donovan triggered the comeback bid by converting a goalmouth feed from Doug Jones at 6:32 of the third.
Just under two minutes later, Bryce Aneloski swept Casey Wellman’s cross ice pass past Terrazzano to narrow the gap to 4-3.
Early on, it seemed the evening might take a different course- Casey Wellman jammed the puck in from the doorstep to give the Riders the lead just 1:09 into the game- but the Blue Jackets would produce a pair of first period goals to take the lead into the first intermission.
The Blue Jackets evened the score when Bianchi’s centering pass was deflected in at 10:06 of the first.
With just 1:01 left in the opening period Patrick Goebel’s close range goal gave the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead.
Clark MacLean made it 3-1 at 9:15 of the second period. MacLean buried the puck after Bianchi’s centering pass was deflected into the goalmouth.
The Blue Jackets made it four unanswered goals when Mike Henderson shoveled the puck home from a goalmouth scramble at 3:07 of the third period.
