Max Strang made 24 saves and Terry Broadhurst scored what would prove to be the game winning goal in the second period as the Sioux Falls Stampede held off the host RoughRiders 2-1 Saturday night.
Broadhurst scored from the slot to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead at 5:01 of the second.
The Riders cut the gap in half while on the power play when Matt Donovan buried a rebound at the 11:31 mark of the second.
Strang and the Stampede protected the one goal lead the rest of the way, surviving a flurry of Rider chances late in the third period. The Riders were up 6-on-4 in the final minute after going on the power play and pulling goaltender Brady Hjelle (32 saves) when Strang made a spectacular point blank save on Bryce Aneloski to preserve the win.
The Stampede had opened the scoring at 15:28 of the first period when Kris Reinthaler converted a 2-on-1 rush by blasting the puck home from the top of the left wing circle.
