RoughRiders Slip Up in Chicago

Cory Chakeen scored two goals, Jak Knelman provided the game winner and Rob Madore made 32 saves as the host Chicago Steel defeated the RoughRiders 4-2 Wednesday night.

Three third period goals propelled the Steel. Chakeen’s scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway to snap a 1-1 tie 1:33 into the third. The Riders evened the score at two when Tyler Thompson jammed in a rebound at the 9:46 mark, but Knelman’s backhander would put the Steel in front for good at 12:21. Just under two minutes later, John Moore provided some insurance for Chicago by burying a Drew LeBlanc centering pass.

The Riders and Steel swapped a pair of goals over the first forty minutes. Chakeen fired the puck home between Rider goaltender Kent Patterson’s (24 saves) pads at 9:02 of the first period. The Riders would get on the scored board at 15:47 of the second when Matt Donovan drove the puck past Madore from the left wing circle.
