Brady Hjelle made 26 saves and Casey Wellman scored two goals as the host RoughRiders shut out the Green Bay Gamblers 4-0 Saturday night.

The Riders took control of the game with three second period goals. Wellman’s blue line blast broke a scoreless deadlock at 3:21 of the second.

The Riders were shorthanded when Doug Jones doubled the lead with a drive from the high slot at 9:17.

Cedar Rapids was on the power play when Wellman scored the Riders’ third goal in just over ten minutes, sweeping the puck in from the side of the net at the 13:47 mark.

Chris Wideman finished off the win for the Riders by burying an empty goal at 17:28 of the third period.

It was Hjelle’s strong first period play- he stopped all 11 Green Bay shots in the opening 20 minutes- that set the stage for the Riders’ second period surge.
