Jake Hanson scored two goals- including the game winner- and added one assist as the host Sioux Falls Stampede defeated the RoughRiders 4-3 Saturday night.
The Stampede bounced back from a 3-2 deficit by scoring the tying and go-ahead goals in a span of just 37 seconds late in the second period. Just 33 seconds after Ian Slater gave Cedar Rapids a 3-2 lead by turning a 2-on-1 rush into the Riders’ third straight goal, the Stampede responded while on the power play. Nick Dineen fired the equalizer home from the top of the left wing circle at 16:53 of the second. At 17:30 Hansen broke the deadlock by burying a Jack Connolly centering pass.
The Stampede had first taken the lead just 3:30 into the game while on the power play when Gabe Guentzel’s blue line blast found the back of the net. Hansen converted a rebound to make it 2-0 at 8:01 of the first period.
Undaunted, the Riders scored twice in 49 seconds to even the score at two apiece later in the first. Cedar Rapids was up a man when Bryce Aneloski cut the gap to 2-1 by burying a goalmouth feed from David Boehm at the 11:33 mark. Nick Oddo jammed the puck in at 12:22 to tie the score.
