Dean Chelios broke a 2-2 tie at 11:02 of the third period and the host RoughRiders went on to defeat the Chicago Steel 3-2 Saturday night.
Chelios jammed a Matt Tomassoni centering pass in from the doorstep to break the deadlock. It was Tomassoni who had triggered the Riders’ third period comeback from a 2-1 deficit by scoring the tying goal earlier in the period. Tomassoni ripped shot home from the blue line to even the score at 2:20 of the third.
The Steel had twice forged leads earlier in the evening. The Steel first jumped in front 1-0 when Drew LeBlance pounced on a loose puck in the Cedar Rapids slot at 9:02 of the first period.
The Riders evened the score at one while on the power play when Mike Seidel charged into the slot to snap the puck home at 6:51 of the second period.
The Steel bounced back and regained the lead on Andrew Miller’s rebound goal with just 1:55 left in the second.
