RoughRiders Dent Steel 4-2

David Boehm scored two goals and Brady Hjelle made 26 saves as the RoughRiders defeated the host Chicago Steel 4-2 Tuesday night.

Each of Boehm’s two second period goals came in response to Chicago shorthanded goals. The Riders led 2-0 until Dan Otto finished off a 2-on-1 rush with the Steel down a man at 6:51 of the second. Just under two minutes later and just after the end of a Rider power play, Boehm scored from the doorstep to make it 3-1.

The Steel would strike again shorthanded at 17:30 of the second when Andy Miele buried a Brian O’Neill centering feed. Again Boehm and the Riders would quickly reply. This time Cedar Rapids was still on the power play when Boehm scored from close range with just 13 seconds left in the period to reestablish the two goal lead.

The Riders first jumped in front with a pair of first period goals. Nick Oddo fired the puck home from the slot at 4:15. At 16:48, the Riders were on a two man advantage when Kyle Flanagan snapped a shot past Chicago goaltender Nick Pisellini from the right wing circle.
