The Riders have won their last six games in a row, equaling the longest winning streak in the United States Hockey League this season.<o:p></o:p> The Riders are in first place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division, eight points ahead of the second place Chicago Steel. The Riders have two games in hand on <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place>. <o:p></o:p> The Riders are two points behind the West Division-leading Omaha Lancers in the race for first place overall heading into Friday’s clash between the two clubs. The Riders boast the USHL’s best winning percentage (.810).<o:p></o:p> The Riders swept two games from the Indiana Ice in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Indianapolis</st1:City></st1:place> over the weekend. The Riders won 4-1 Saturday night and 3-2 on Sunday.<o:p></o:p> The weekend’s victories extended the Riders’ road winning streak to five straight games, one short of the team record.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have also won their last three home games and are unbeaten in regulation (6-0-1) in seven home contests since suffering their only home loss of the season to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place> on October 23.<o:p></o:p> The Riders will meet two West Division foes this weekend after playing their last five games against East Division clubs. The Riders have won ten straight against the east since suffering their only loss of the season to an eastern opponent (also the October 23 setback against <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place>). <o:p></o:p> The Riders and Lancers are at or near the top of the USHL in nearly every statistical category. The Lancers have the USHL’s best home record (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2000" Day="1" Month="8">8-1-0</st1:date>); the Riders the second best (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="1" Month="7">7-1-1</st1:date>). The Riders have the advantage on the road, having gone a league best <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="2" Month="9">9-2-1</st1:date> away from home while the Lancers’ road mark of <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2002" Day="4" Month="9">9-4-2</st1:date> is good enough for second best.<o:p></o:p> The Lancers have the league’s best power play (20.5 percent); the Riders possess the second best (16.0). The Riders have the edge in penalty killing, leading the league at 88.8 percent, while the Lancers rank fourth (86.6).<o:p></o:p> The Riders lead the league in goal scoring (3.86 per game), while the Lancers rank third (3.75). <st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City> leads the way in goals against (2.33), while it’s <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:City></st1:place> that ranks third (2.57). <o:p></o:p> The Riders have become markedly stingier over the course of their winning streak. They have allowed a total just seven goals in their last six games.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ Jon Grabarek set a new team career point scoring record last Saturday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Indianapolis</st1:City></st1:place>. Grabarek collected his record-breaking ninety-eighth point as a Rider when he assisted on a Matt Vokes goal at <st1:time w:st="on" Minute="47" Hour="9">9:47</st1:time> of the first period. With that assist, Grabarek snapped the old record of 97 points he had previously shared with former Rider Chase Watson. Grabarkek added a second assist later in the game to bring his career point total to 99.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ Zach Miskovic played in his one hundred fortieth straight regular season game for the Riders Saturday night, breaking the team record of 139 consecutive games he had previously shared with former teammate Chris Snavely. Miskovic extended his streak to 141 games in a row when he played in the Riders’ victory Sunday evening. <o:p></o:p> The Lancers ended a three game winless streak (0-2-1)- their longest drought of the season- with a 3-0 shutout of the Waterloo Black Hawks last Saturday. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City></st1:place> had suffered a pair of setbacks earlier in the week. The Lancers fell in <st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City> 4-3 in a shootout last Wednesday (a result for which they did earn one point) and suffered a 5-2 loss to the Tri-City Storm last Friday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Kearney</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Nebraska</st1:State></st1:place>.<o:p></o:p> Three Lancers are among the top four in the league in point scoring. Trevor Smith leads the league in points (30), just ahead of teammates Corey Carlson (29) and Brock Bradford (28). Smith also leads the league in goals (16) and power play goals (10), while Carlson and Bradford are tied for the lead in assists (18).<o:p></o:p> The Lancers’ Jeff Lerg is one of just two USHL goaltenders with a goals against average below 2.0 (1.96).<o:p></o:p> Former Rider Brandon Naurato has scored seven goals and totaled 10 points in 14 games with the Lancers. Alex Stalock’s 23 save effort brought him the win in goal. The game grew more fractious as it progressed. The two teams combined for 106 penalty minutes, a season high for a game involving the Riders.
