RoughRiders, Jaycees Team Up for Second
Annual Teddy Bear Toss Friday;
Teddy Bears Donated to Christmas Toy Ship

December 7, 2004- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will team up to host their second annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit The Christmas Toy Shop, this Friday when the RoughRiders take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:05PM at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped teddy bears to the game and toss them onto the ice after the RoughRiders score their first goal. The teddy bears will then be collected from the ice and donated to The Christmas Toy Shop.

“We’re very excited that our second annual Teddy Bear Toss is almost here,” said RoughRiders Vice-President of Operations Jim Calpin. “Our fans have already shown tremendous generosity in our other community initiatives this season and we hope they’re able to spread some Christmas spirit this Friday.”

The Christmas Toy Shop is a partnership between Toys for Tots and The Salvation Army which provides holiday toys for children in need up to 17 years of age. Last year the two groups served more than 700 families and approximately 3,000 children in the Cedar Rapids area.

The Jaycees and the United States Marine Corps coordinate the Cedar Rapids area Toys for Tots program.

Tickets Friday’s game and the rest of the RoughRiders’ remaining home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.

The streaking RoughRiders (16-3-2, 34 points) lead the United States Hockey League’s East Division. The Riders are the hottest team in the USHL, having won six straight games and gone unbeaten in regulation (9-0-1) in a team record-tying ten games in a row. The Riders swept a pair of games from the Indiana Ice in Indianapolis last weekend.
| Posted on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 (Archive on Wednesday, December 08, 2004)
