Record-Setting Weekend for RoughRiders’ Grabarek, Miskovic

December 6, 2004- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Jon Grabarek set a new team career point scoring record in the Riders’ 4-1 win over the Indiana Ice last Saturday in Indianapolis, while Riders defenseman Zach Miskovic established a new club record for most consecutive games played in the same game.

Grabarek, 20, collected his record-breaking ninety-eighth point as a Rider when he assisted on Matt Vokes’s opening goal at 9:47 of the first period Saturday. With that assist, Grabarek snapped the old record of 97 points he had previously shared with former Rider Chase Watson. Grabarkek added a second assist later in the game to bring his career point total to 99.

Grabarek has notched 42 goals and 57 assists in 137 games over his two-plus seasons with the Riders. So far this season, the Sterling Heights, Michigan, native has scored five goals and picked up eight assists for 13 points in 21 games. Grabarek’s two assist night Saturday came after he had gone four games without registering a point.

Last season Grabarek (22-35-57) was the Riders’ leading point scorer.

Miskovic, 19, played in his one hundred fortieth straight regular season game for the Riders Saturday night, breaking the record of 139 consecutive games he had previously shared with former teammate Chris Snavely. Miskovic extended his streak to 141 games in a row when he played in the Riders’ 3-2 victory over the Ice in Indianapolis Sunday evening.

Miskovic has not missed a game since making his Rider debut in a season opening 4-1 win over the River City Lancers on September 28, 2002. The River Forest, Illinois native played in all 60 regular season games each of the last two seasons and has suited up for the Riders’ first 21 games this year. Miskovic also ranks third in team history in total (consecutive or otherwise) career games played.

Miskovic, who last month was named one of the Riders’ assistant captains, is enjoying a fine season. The River Forest, Illinois, native has scored two goals and picked up eight assists for ten points. He has also posted a solid +8 plus/minus rating.

The Riders are next in action this Friday when they host the Omaha Lancers at 7:05PM. At that game, the RoughRiders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will team up to host their second annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit The Christmas Toy Shop. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped teddy bears to the game and toss them onto the ice after the RoughRiders score their first goal. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to The Christmas Toy Shop.

Tickets for RoughRider home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office.
