RoughRiders' Tryout Camp Opens Tomorrow

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will hold their 2007 tryout camp this weekend at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Approximately 80 players will take part in the camp, which begins tomorrow afternoon at 4:00.

Most prominent among the camp participants are nine returnees from last season’s Cedar Rapids team. 2006-07 United States Hockey League All-Rookie goaltender Kent Patterson will be joined by veteran forwards David Boehm, Doug Jones, Mike Seidel, Ian Slater, Tyler Thompson and Casey Wellman and returning defensemen Scott Mathis and Matt Tomassoni.

This weekend will also present RoughRider fans with their first chance to catch a glimpse of defenseman Matt Donovan, who earlier this month was selected by the Riders in the first round of the USHL draft.

After a quartet of Thursday evening practice sessions, players will be divided into four teams that will play three games each. Pairs of games will be played Friday morning beginning at 8:00, Friday evening starting at 5:30 and beginning at 8:00 Saturday morning. The teams will then be changed prior to another double header Saturday evening. The top performers in camp will return to the ice for the final game of the weekend Sunday morning at 9:00.

All tryout camp sessions are free and open to the public.
