RoughRiders Gear Up for Tomorrow’s USHL Draft

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders’ 2007-08 roster will begin to take shape with tomorrow’s United States Hockey League draft.

The Riders will choose tenth in the draft- the draft order is determined using the reverse order of the 2006-07 USHL standings. The RoughRiders have the third to last choice in each round by virtue of finishing third overall in the league this season.

The Chicago Steel, who finished last in the league last season, will have the first choice. Again this year, fans can follow the draft online at www.ushldraft.com beginning at 9:00AM.

Players under age 21 who played high school, midget, junior (outside the USHL) or even college hockey last season are all eligible for the draft.

The Riders’ draftees will join the team’s veterans and affiliated players on the Cedar Rapids protected list. The RoughRiders’ draft picks will compete for roster spots with the veterans and affiliated players as well as a group of undrafted players at the club’s 2006 try-out camp May 31 to June 3 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
