Game Summary: December 5, 2004- RoughRiders 3 Indiana 2

Rob Ricci’s unassisted goal midway through the second period proved to be the game winner as the RoughRiders edged the host Indiana Ice 3-2 Sunday evening.

The win was the Riders’ sixth in a row and extended their unbeaten streak (9-0-1) to a team record tying ten straight games.

The Riders were already in front 2-1 when Justin Abdelkader flattened Indiana puck carrier Chris Nugent to set up the chance for Ricci. The Rider captain grabbed the loose puck and walked into the goalmouth alone to slip the puck between the pads of Ice goaltender B.J. O’Brien.

Todd McIlrath buried a rebound with just 52 seconds left in the second period to trim the Cedar Rapids lead to 3-2, but the Riders kept the Ice off the scoreboard in the third period to preserve the win.

The Riders originally jumped in front late in the first period with a pair of goals less than a minute apart.

Erik Felde scored the game’s first goal at 17:37. Ricci’s centering pass was deflected to Felde in front of the net and he snapped it past O’Brien.

Just 48 seconds later the Riders were up 2-0 after Jordan Pietrus raced to the net to convert a Ted Purcell centering pass.

The Ice got on the scoreboard at 3:12 of the second period when Jay Cascalenda’s drive from the blue line sailed past Rider goaltender Dan Tormey.

Tormey, however, would go on to make 23 saves on his way to earning the win. He was at his best while making a series of fine stops to keep Indiana from converting on a two man advantage later in the second period.
