Waterloo K.O.’s Riders 6-0

Matt DiGirolamo made 30 saves and James Marcou scored two goals as the host Waterloo Black Hawks ended the RoughRiders’ season with a 6-0 shutout Saturday night in the final game of the Clark Cup playoff East Division round robin.

The Riders finished the round robin 0-2, while the Black Hawks went 1-1 and will move on to host next weekend’s United States Hockey League Final Four.

The Black Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back.  Blake Kessel scored the first of Waterloo’s three power play goals with a drive from the high slot at 8:43 of the first period.

Paul Weisgarber buried a rebound to make it 2-0 at 14:46.

The Hawks were again up a man when Marcou turned a Ryan Cramer centering pass into the third Waterloo goal at 18:14 of the first.

Marcou would strike again on the power play at 13:55 of the second period, sweeping a rebound home to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Brett Olson scored the fifth Hawk goal from close range just over two minutes later.

Josh Turnbull scored the capper on a breakaway one minute into the third period.  Richard Bachman (seven saves) replaced Kent Patterson (21 saves) in the Rider net after Turnbull’s goal.
