Matt DiGirolamo made 30 saves and James Marcou scored two goals as the
host Waterloo Black Hawks ended the RoughRiders’ season with a 6-0
shutout Saturday night in the final game of the Clark Cup playoff East
Division round robin.
The
Riders finished the round robin 0-2, while the Black Hawks went 1-1
and will move on to host next weekend’s United States Hockey League
Final Four.
The
Black Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back.
Blake Kessel scored the first of Waterloo’s three power play goals
with a drive from the high slot at 8:43 of the first period.
Paul
Weisgarber buried a rebound to make it 2-0 at 14:46.
The
Hawks were again up a man when Marcou turned a Ryan Cramer centering
pass into the third Waterloo goal at 18:14 of the first.
Marcou
would strike again on the power play at 13:55 of the second period,
sweeping a rebound home to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Brett
Olson scored the fifth Hawk goal from close range just over two minutes
later.
Josh
Turnbull scored the capper on a breakaway one minute into the third
period. Richard Bachman (seven saves) replaced Kent Patterson
(21 saves) in the Rider net after Turnbull’s goal.
