Miskovic Poised to Break RoughRider Consecutive Game Record

December 3, 2004- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Zach Miskovic will break the team record for most consecutive games played if he, as expected, takes to the ice for the one hundred fortieth straight time when the Riders meet the Indiana Ice tomorrow night in Inianapolis.

Miskovic, 19, tied the existing Rider record of 139 consecutive regular season games- a mark first set by Chris Snavely- by playing in the Riders’ 3-0 home win over the Ice last Saturday. Miskovic has not missed a game since making his Rider debut in a season opening 4-1 win over the River City Lancers on September 28, 2002. He played in all 60 regular season games each of the last two seasons and has suited up for the Riders’ first 19 games this year.

Miskovic ranks third in team history in total career games played. By skating in last Saturday night’s win over Indiana, Miskovic moved past Chase Watson (138 games) in the organization’s all time rankings.

Miskovic, who last month was named one of the Riders’ assistant captains, is enjoying a fine season. The River Forest, Illinois, native has scored two goals and picked up eight assists for ten points. He has also posted a solid +6 plus/minus rating. Miskovic is tied for ninth among United States Hockey League defensemen in point scoring.

Miskovic has played some of his best hockey of the season in recent days. He has collected five assists and turned in a plus/minus of +10 in just his last six games.

Snavely, who did not miss a game between February 9, 2001 and his final regular season appearance for the Riders on March 30, 2003, now plays college hockey for Michigan State.

Miskovic is not the only Rider on the brink of writing his name in the team record book. Forward Jon Grabarek is tied for another club record with 97 career points. Grabarek, 20, will move past Watson’s old record and set a new team standard with his next goal or assist. The third year forward has totaled 11 points (five goals and six assists) in 19 games this season.

After visiting Indiana for two games this weekend, the Riders are next in action at home on Friday, December 10, when they meet the Omaha Lancers at 7:05PM. Also on December 10, the RoughRiders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will team up to host their second annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit The Christmas Toy Shop. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped teddy bears to the game and toss them onto the ice after the RoughRiders score their first goal. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to The Christmas Toy Shop.

Tickets for RoughRider home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.
