Jarmo Jokila, Matt Thurber and Jake Marto had one goal and one assist apiece as the host Omaha Lancers defeated the RoughRiders 5-2 Tuesday night.
After Casey Wellman scored from the doorstep to give the Riders a 1-0 lead just under six minutes into the second period, the Lancers responded by ripping off three goals in four minutes and 59 seconds. A bad hop cost the Riders at 8:55 of the second. Cedar Rapids goaltender Richard Bachman came out of the net to play a Lancer dump-in only for the puck to jump past his stick and straight to the waiting Jokila, who buried it in the open net.
At 11:01 the Lancers took the lead for the first time when Joe Baudette shoveled a rebound in over Bachman’s shoulder.
Jake Marto capped off the Omaha outburst by converted a Jokila centering feed at 13:54.
At 18:24 of the second the Riders trimmed the gap to 3-2 on Ian Slater’s blast from the high slot.
The Lancers pulled away with third period goals from Matt Thurber and Almeida. Thurber’s close range goal made it 4-2 at 6:16 and Almeida’s drive from the top of the right wing circle at the eleven minute mark capped off the Omaha win.
