RoughRiders Acquire Defenseman Rodriguez, Deal Olinyk to Green Bay
<p>December 2, 2004- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have traded defenseman Brendan Olinyk to the Green Bay Gamblers in exchange for a fifth round choice in the 2005 United States Hockey League draft and have also acquired defenseman Rafael Rodriguez from the L.A. Selects midget team, the RoughRiders announced today. </p>
<p>“We think the acquisition of Rafael will strengthen our defense,” said RoughRiders coach and general manger Mark Carlson. “He’s a smart player and we expect him to be a very good puck moving defenseman for us.”</p>
<p>Rodriguez, 18, is a 5’ 8”, 175-pound native of Oceanside, California.</p>
<p>Olinyk departs Cedar Rapids after picking up one assist in six games with the Riders this season. The 18-year old Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, native was originally selected by the Riders in the first round of the August, 2003, USHL futures draft.</p>
<p>Rodriguez joins a RoughRiders team (14-3-2, 30 points) that is in first place in the USHL’s East Division, six points ahead of the Chicago Steel. The Riders, who boast the USHL’s best winning percentage (.789), have won four straight games and are unbeaten in regulation (7-0-1) in their last eight games. </p>
<p>The Riders return to action when they take on Indiana at 6:05 Saturday night and again at 4:05 Sunday afternoon. </p>
<p>The Riders next play on home ice on Friday, December 10, when they meet the Omaha Lancers at 7:05PM. Also on December 10, the RoughRiders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will team up to host their second annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit The Christmas Toy Shop. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped teddy bears to the game and toss them onto the ice after the RoughRiders score their first goal. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to The Christmas Toy Shop. </p>
<p>Tickets for RoughRider home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.</p> |
