Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Doug Jones has been named United States Hockey League Offensive Player of the Week.
Jones, 19, scored three goals and added three assists for six points as the Riders’ went 2-0-1 last week.
“Doug has done a very good job of stepping up for us,” said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. “He’s worked very had to improve since the start of the season and has played very well at both ends.”
Jones had one assist in the Riders’ 6-4 win over Sioux City last Wednesday, scored once and picked up another assist in a 5-4 overtime loss at Omaha last Friday and led the Rider onslaught in a 7-1 win over Ohio last Saturday by scoring two goals- including the game winner- and collecting another assist.
In 48 games this season, Jones has second ten goals and totaled 22 points. The Marietta, Georgia, product joined the Riders this season playing for Taft School last year in Connecticut.
The Riders (31-15-4, 66 points) are in first place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division. The Riders return to action tonight against the Chicago Steel in Bensenville, Illinois. The Riders next take to the ice at home on Friday, March 30 when they host the archrival Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05PM.
