Doug Jones scored two goals and picked up one assist and Ian Slater score once and added a pair of assists as the host Cedar Rapids RoughRiders ripped off six unanswered goals on the way to a 7-1 win over the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets Saturday night.
After the Riders’ Danny Dries- on a two-on-on- and the Blue Jackets’ Danny Hobbs- with a wrister from the slot- swapped goals in a span 42 second in the first period, Jones struck for his first of the night to kick start the Cedar Rapids onslaught. Jones reestablished the Rider lead by poking a loose poke over the goal line 12:47 of the first.
Pat Cannone’s shorthanded goal extended the lead to 3-1 at 10:47 of the second period. Cannone finished off a two-on-none rush by burying a goalmouth feed from Jacob Cepis.
The Riders broke the game open with four third period goals. Slater’s drive from the high slot made it 4-1 at 7:47. One minute and twenty-four seconds later Robin Bergman rifled the puck in from the right wing circle and the Riders had a 5-1 advantage. At 16:30 Jones batted in his second and the team’s sixth. David Boehm provided the exclamation point by ripping the puck home from the slot with just 7.7 seconds left.
