The RoughRiders broke loose for four second period goals to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead and went on to defeat the host Chicago Steel 7-4 Tuesday night.
The Riders blitzed Chicago with three goals in just three minutes and thirty-three seconds early in the middle frame.
Jacob Cepis- who also had two assists- started the onslaught, scoring on a breakaway to trim the gap to 3-2 just 37 seconds into the second.
The Riders tied the game at three when Doug Jones scored from the slot at the 2:26 mark.
At 4:10, Scott Wietecha buried a Cepis centering pass to give the Riders a 4-3 lead.
Ian Slater scored what would prove to be the game winner from the side of the net with just under five minutes left in the second.
The Steel battled back within one with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 5:39 of the third period. Dan Ryan shoveled in a rebound to cut the Rider lead to 5-4.
The Riders quashed Chicago comeback hopes with a power play goal of their own just over two minutes later. Mike Seidel’s tip-in reestablished the Riders’ two-goal lead.
Evan Stephens finished off the Steel with a blast from the slot at 17:24 of the third.
It was the Steel who enjoyed the stronger start. Sean Dolan’s power play goal opened the scoring 8:38 into the game.
Kevin Wehrs deadlocked the score at one apiece with a power play goal of his own at 11:04.
The Steel quickly rebounded, taking a 3-1 lead as Cory Chakeen converted Dolan set-ups at 13:54 and again at 17:56.
