Riders Edge Ice 4-3 in Overtime

Robin Bergman scored his second goal of the game at 1:14 of overtime to give the RoughRiders a 4-3 win over the host Indiana Ice Saturday night.

Bergman charged into the goalmouth behind the Indiana defense to backhand the winner past Ice goaltender Alex Kangas.

The Riders held a 3-2 lead until Jake Skojdt walked in alone to even the score with 8:28 left in the third period.

Jacob Cepis had given the Riders their first lead of the night at 18:22 of the second period. Cepis walked around Indiana defenseman Matt Smith in the goalmouth to backhand the puck between Kangas’s pads and snap a 2-2 deadlock.

The Ice twice took the lead earlier in the contest, but the Riders quickly responded to even to score on both occasions.

Nicholas Bailen opened the scoring at 16:53 of the first period by backhanding a John Kemp centering pass by Rider goaltender Richard Bachman (22 saves). The Riders were on the power play when Bergman jammed a loose puck home from close range just one minute and fifty-five seconds later.

The Ice’s Mike Del Mauro buried a rebound 7:03 into the second period to put the Ice up 2-1, but the Riders replied- again just one minute and fifty-five seconds later- when Matt Tomassoni’s shot from the right point was deflected in.
