Game Summary: November 24, 2004- RoughRiders 6 Waterloo 2
<p>Matt Vokes scored two goals twenty-two seconds apart in the first period and the host RoughRiders rolled to a 6-2 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks Wednesday night.</p>
<p>With the victory, the Riders are unbeaten in regulation (5-0-1) in their last six games. Dan Tormey made 28 saves to earn the win in goal for the Riders.</p>
<p>The Black Hawks might have been able to guess what kind of night was in store for them when the Riders took a 1-0 lead as a loose puck bounced off Waterloo’s Nathan Lawrence and into the Hawk net at 6:51 of the first period. The Riders’ Jordan Pietrus was credited with the goal- his shot from the high slot pinballed off Waterloo starting goaltender Bud Johnson and then Lawrence before crossing the goal line.</p>
<p>The Riders tightened their grip on the game with Vokes’s back-to-back goals later in the first. Vokes first intercepted a Corey Quirk pass in the Waterloo slot and rifled it past Johnson to give the Riders a 2-0 lead at 16:39. He struck again at 17:01, swooping into the goalmouth and burying the rebound after Johnson stopped his first shot.</p>
<p>Josh Duncan’s power play goal gave Waterloo a spark at 3:54 of the second period, but the Riders would bounce back with three goals in the second to put the game away.</p>
<p>Phil Axtell batted the puck in from the goalmouth to make it 4-1 at 7:10 of the second.</p>
<p>At 10:38 the Riders were on the power play when Brandon Svendsen scored from the slot off a Justin Abdelkader centering pass. That goal chased Johnson from the game. He was replaced by Drew O’Connell.</p>
<p>The Riders were shorthanded when Billy Loupee scored the sixth Cedar Rapids goal with a wrist shot from the slot at 15:15.</p>
<p>Lawrence scored the only goal of the third period on a rebound at 11:44, but the Riders by then had long since assured themselves of two points.</p>
