Tri-City Downs Riders 4-1

Tri-City Downs Riders 4-1

Jesse Martin scored two goals and assisted on another as the host Tri-City Storm defeated the RoughRiders 4-1 Saturday afternoon.

Martin broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal at 14:25 of the second period. Martin steered a Calle Ridderwall (one goal, one assist) feed home from the doorstep to give the Storm a lead it would not relinquish.

Martin struck again just 1:18 into the third period, snapping the puck between the pads of Rider goaltender Richard Bachman (34 saves) to make it 3-1.

Just over two minutes later, Justin Van Guilder’s shorthanded goal stretched the lead to 4-1. Van Guilder cut into the slot and fired the puck in under the cross bar for what was the Storm’s fourth straight goal. The four-goal run started at 5:40 of the first period when Ridderwall buried a Martin centering pass with the Storm on the power play.

Ridderwall’s goal tied the game at one just one minute and 44 seconds after Aaron Bogosian scored what would prove to be the Riders’ only goal of the night from close range.
