The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders raised $4,600 for the Children’s Miracle Network by auctioning off their special edition Iowa Hawkeye jerseys after last Saturday’s game against the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets.
The Riders wore the black-and-gold jerseys- which feature both the Rider and Hawkeye logos- in Saturday evening’s 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
“Our fans have once again shown tremendous generosity and community spirit,” said RoughRiders Vice President Jim Calpin. “We’re thrilled to be able to make such a substantial donation to the Children’s Miracle Network and would also like to thank the University of Iowa for all of their assistance.”
The jersey of RoughRiders second year defenseman Scott Wietecha drew the highest bid- $775.
The RoughRiders (9-4-0, 18 points) will play three games in three nights this week. The Riders visit the arch rival Waterloo Black Hawks Thursday night before returning home to take on the Black Hawks Friday evening at 7:05. The Riders enter the two game series with Waterloo trailing the Hawks by just two points in the race for first place in the USHL’s East Division. The Riders will round out the weekend with a visit to Green Bay to meet the Gamblers Saturday night.
