Riders Roll Past Blue Jackets 4-1

Robin Bergman and Ian Slater scored two goals apiece and the host RoughRiders overcame a 50 save effort from Ohio Junior Blue Jackets goaltender Troy Redmann on the way to 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets Saturday night.

Bergman gave the Riders a 1-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game. After collecting a loose puck in the Ohio zone, Bergman cut in front and backhanded the puck past Redmann.

Redman proved much tougher to beat the rest of the way, as he kept the Riders off the scoreboard through the rest of the first and most of the second period. Redman efforts enabled the Blue Jackets to even the score at one apiece while on the power play when Danny Dries buried a rebound at 13:33 of the second.

The Riders were undeterred however, as Bergman would strike again at 17:05 the second. The Swede rifled a Pat Cannone centering pass home to put the Rider back on top.

The Blue Jackets found themselves trailing 2-1 entering the third period despite getting 21 saves from Redmann in the second.

Slater gave the Riders some breathing room by jamming a rebound in at 6:27 of the third.

The Riders finished off the night with a flourish when Slater walked in alone to sweep backhander past the sprawling Redmann.
