Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Robin Bergman has committed to the University of Notre Dame, the RoughRiders announced today.
“We’re very excited for Robin,” said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. “He’s a skilled player who’s also worked very hard for us this season.”
Bergman, 18, is in his first season with the Riders. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has scored three goals and totaled eight points in just six games this year. Bergman has shined after missing the Riders’ first three games with a hip flexor injury.
The 6’ 0”, 190-pound Bergman joined the RoughRiders after playing in Sweden for Hammarby IF last season.
Notre Dame has gotten its campaign off to a superb start. Coach Jeff Jackson’s Fighting Irish have gone 6-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play.
Bergman joins Jacob Cepis (Bowling Green), Doug Jones (Princeton), Andy Miele (Miami of Ohio), Matt Tomassoni (Miami of Ohio), Kevin Wehrs (Minnesota), Scott Wietecha (Ferris State) and Tommy Wingels (Miami of Ohio) as the eighth member of the 2006-07 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.
Bergman and the RoughRiders (5-4-0, 10 points) are in second place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division, four points behind the division-leading Waterloo Black Hawks. The Riders will travel to Columbus this weekend for games against the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets Saturday and Sunday. The Riders next take to the ice at home when they meet the Blue Jackets on Friday, November 17 at 7:05PM.
