The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will team up with the Iowa and Iowa State hockey teams for a double header this Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
The Hawkeyes and Cyclones will face off at 4:00PM. The RoughRiders and Lincoln Stars will complete the twin bill at 7:05PM.
This is the third year in a row that the Riders and Hawkeyes have played a doubleheader at the ice arena and the second straight year that Iowa and Iowa State have met in the first half of the twin bill. The Cyclones defeated the Hawkeyes 12-4 prior to a RoughRiders game last season.
One ticket will cover admission to both games of the doubleheader.
Iowa State is ranked fifth in the American College Hockey Association’s Division I rankings. The Cyclones (0-1-1 conference, 8-3-1 overall) are in seventh place in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.
Iowa, a member of the Division II Mid-American College Hockey Association Silver Division, has gone 2-4-0 in its first six games.
Saturday evening is also the RoughRiders’ second Food Drive Night of the season. The Riders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees are again this season teaming up for monthly food drives to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders’ first Saturday home game of each month.
The RoughRiders (4-3-0, 8 points) head into the weekend in second place in the USHL’s East Division, four points behind the division-leading Waterloo Black Hawks. The Riders visit the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday night before returning home to meet the Stars Saturday evening.
