RoughRiders Open Season Tomorrow; Food Drive to Benefit HACAP Food Reservoir

October 6, 2006- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders open the 2006-07 season tomorrow night at 7:05PM against the Green Bay Gamblers at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. 2006 RoughRiders Opening Night is sponsored by 100.7 The Fox and Mix 96.5.

All fans in attendance tomorrow night will receive free 2006-07 RoughRiders magnet schedules courtesy of St. Luke’s Iowa Health System, Velocity Sports Performance, Aspen Athletic, i wireless and AM 1360 The Fan.

Prior to the game fans will be able to tailgate outside the ice arena beginning at 4:00PM. Food and beverages will be available to tailgaters through Sodexho, the ice arena concessionaire. After the game fans will be treated to a fireworks display outside the arena.

Saturday evening is also the RoughRiders’ first Food Drive Night of the season. The Riders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will again this season team up for monthly food drives to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders’ first Saturday home game of each month.

A host of local non-profit groups have received free tickets to the opener, thanks to the generosity of General Mills, CN- North America’s Railroad, ScoreBid, Cedar River Paper, Hampton Inn and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders fan club, all of whom have donated opening night tickets through the RoughRiders’ Score for the Community program.

While ticket sales for Saturday night’s game have been strong, seats are still available. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days, including Saturday. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game day. Beginning with the home opener, the RoughRiders will be in action at the ice arena on five consecutive Saturday nights.

The RoughRiders head into the opener having gone 4-1-0 in five preseason games. The Riders wrapped up the preseason by winning last week’s Buc Bowl tournament in Urbandale on the strength of a 3-0-0 record.

Again this season, all RoughRiders regular season and playoff games will be broadcast on AM-1360 The Fan in Cedar Rapids. Brian Lavelle provides play-by-play.

Courtesy of B2 Networks, free audio webcasts of Riders games are also available at www.roughridershockey.com.
