Game Summary: November 9, 2004 - RoughRiders 7 Des Moines 4

Rob Ricci had two goals and two assists and twelve other RoughRiders recorded at least one point as the Riders defeated the host Des Moines Buccaneers 7-4 Friday night.

Ricci scored his first goal with just 2.8 seconds left in the first period to give the Riders their first lead of the night. Ricci buried a Ted Purcell centering pass just before the horn to put the Riders up 3-2.

Ricci extended the lead to 4-2 at 8:35 of the second period. He backhanded a Chase Ryan feed under the crossbar for his second goal of the night.

The Bucs battled back within one when Jim Erickson scored just one minute seven seconds later.

The Riders retook the two goal lead at 15:33 as Jon Grabarek snapped the puck home from the left wing circle to make the score 5-3.

Once again, the Bucs quickly clawed back within one as Tom Gerken’s shot from the left point was deflected past RoughRider goaltender Alex Stalock (26 saves) a mere 51 seconds later.

In the third period, however, the Riders would finish off the Bucs with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart from Alec Martinez and (on the power play) Brandon Svendsen. After Svendsen scored what was his second and the Riders’ seventh of the night, the Bucs replaced starting goaltender Pat Watson with A.J. Bucchino.

The Bucs fell in the end despite getting off to a promising start by twice taking the lead in the first period.

Chad Rau followed up former Rider Sean Muncy’s rush and swept the puck in from the slot for the opening goal at 11:19 of the first.

The Riders tied the score at one less than two minutes later when Phil Axtell crashed the net to convert a Hunter Bishop centering pass.

The Bucs provided a quick response of their own while on the power play just over two minutes after Axtell’s goal. Muncy drove a Rau centering pass into the back of net to make it 2-1 Bucs at 15:11.

The second Bucs lead lasted little longer than the first as Svendsen scored to even the game at two apiece at 17:51 and set the stage for Ricci to give the Riders a lead they would never relinquish.

Box Score
