<DIV style="FLOAT: right"><IMG src="/content/portals/5/images/purcellt.jpg"> <CENTER>#26 Ted Purcell</CENTER></DIV> <P>April 14, 2006- The Des Moines Buccaneers survived the host RoughRiders&#8217; third period comeback bid and completed a three game sweep of the East Division finals with a 5-3 win over the Riders Saturday night.</P> <P>The Riders battled back with power play goals from Ted Purcell and Chad Costello to cut what had been a 4-1 Buc lead to 4-3, but Colin Vock&#8217;s late empty netter finally put Cedar Rapids away.</P> <P>Purcell sparked the Rider rally when he snapped the puck home from the left wing face off circle at 10:11 of the third. </P> <P>Just over four minutes later, the Riders narrowed the gap to just a single goal when Chad Costello redirected a Purcell centering pass home.</P> <P>The Riders created a 6-on-5 advantage by pulling goaltender Al Stalock for an extra attacker with just over a minute left, but Vock dashed Cedar Rapids&#8217; hopes of a tying goal when he buried the puck in the gaping net from the Rider blue line.</P> <P>In the end, the Bucs&#8217; three-goal second period proved too much for the Riders to overcome. Des Moines was on the power play when Jeff Petry started the onslaught at 3:14 of the middle period. Petry snapped a 1-1 tie with a wrist shot from the high slot.</P> <P>The Bucs were again on the power play when Trevor Lewis scored in a goalmouth scramble at the 6:57 mark of the second.</P> <P>Ben Ryan picked off a pass in the left wing circle in the Rider end and snapped a wrist shot past Cedar Rapids goaltender Al Stalock (44 saves) to stretch the lead to 4-1 at 16:22 of the second. </P> <P>The Bucs broke loose in the second after the teams swapped first period goals. Des Moines&#8217; Richard Purslow swept a rebound home to open the scoring 5:47 into the game. Jacob Cepis replied for the Riders at 11:03 of the first by streaking into the goalmouth and snapping the puck past the glove hand of Des Moines goaltender Troy Davenport (35 saves).</P> <P><A href="http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=305973" target=_blank>Box Score</A></P>
