Game Summary: March 31, 2006- RoughRiders 5 Indiana 2
<p>March 31, 2006- The host RoughRiders scored four unanswered goals and surged past the Indiana Ice 5-2 Friday night to even up their best-of-five opening round playoff series with Indiana at one game apiece.</p>
<p>The Riders turned the game around with a pair of goals just 21.5 seconds apart late in the second period. </p>
<p>The Riders were trailing 2-1 until Jordan Pietrus knotted the score with just 24 seconds left in the second. Pietrus buried the rebound after Indiana goaltender Steve Jakiel (31 saves) stopped the Rider captain’s initial bid.</p>
<p>The Ice was still reeling when Cedar Rapids took the lead for the first time on a goal by Brett Dickinson with just 2.5 seconds left in the period. Dickinson snapped the puck home from the right point to send the Riders into the intermission on top by one.</p>
<p>The Riders kept the roll going in the third period. Ted Purcell’s power play goal at 8:58 of the third extended the lead to 4-2. Purcell, who also had an assist, snapped the puck past Jakiel from the left point.</p>
<p>Gary Steffes wristed the puck past Jakiel’s glove hand from the slot with 5:34 left in the game to cap off the victory for the Riders.</p>
<p>The Riders spent much of the first two periods battling from behind. Indiana was on the power play when Mike Hull opened the scoring from the doorstep at 7:12 of the first period.</p>
<p>The Riders bounced back while on the power play themselves as Phil Axtell evened the score at one apiece with a one timer from the slot at 15:02 of the first.</p>
<p>The Ice retook the lead at 13:35 of the second when Todd McIlrath’s shot from the high slot eluded Cedar Rapids goaltender Al Stalock.</p>
<p>Stalock, who finished the night with 24 saves, would shut the door on the Ice the rest of the way.</p><P><A href="http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=301624" target=_blank>Box Score</A></P> |
