March 30, 2006- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders captain Jordan Pietrus has committed to Brown University, the RoughRiders announced today.

“We’re very excited for Jordan,” said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson. “He’s done a great job for us since he first became a RoughRider. He has provided tremendous leadership both on and off the ice.”

Pietrus, a 20-year old forward, finished the regular season with ten goals and 23 points. The Winnipeg native picked up one assist Tuesday night in the Riders’ playoff opening 4-3 overtime loss at Indiana. Over his two seasons in Cedar Rapids, Pietrus scored 24 goals and totaled 48 points. Last year he helped the Riders to the first United States Hockey League Clark Cup title in team history.

The Riders selected Pietrus in the fourteenth round of the May, 2004 USHL entry draft with the one hundred fifth overall choice. Pietrus was named a Manitoba Junior Hockey League First Team All-Star after scoring 46 goals and notching 95 points for the Winnipeg Saints in 2003-04.

Pietrus will join former RoughRider teammates Matt Vokes and Sean Muncy at Brown in the fall. This season a young Brown team went 5-20-7 and finished last in the ECAC Hockey League.

Pietrus joins Phil Axtell (Michigan Tech), Jacob Cepis (Bowling Green), Chad Costello (Northeastern), Ray Kaunisto (Northern Michigan), Steven Kaunisto (Lake Superior State), Ryan Gunderson (Minnesota State-Mankato), Andy Miele (Miami of Ohio), Ted Purcell (Maine), Nik Sellers (Lake Superior State), Alex Stalock (Minnesota-Duluth), Gary Steffes (Miami of Ohio), David Strathman (Northeastern) and Kevin Wehrs (Minnesota) as the fourteenth member of the 2005-06 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.

Pietrus and the rest of the RoughRiders return home for games two and three of their best-of-five opening round series against Indiana this Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 7:05PM. If a fourth game is necessary, it will be played in Indianapolis on Thursday, April 6. Should the series go the full five games, the Riders would host the deciding contest on Saturday, April 8 at 7:05PM.

The Riders are fresh off a second straight East Division title. The Riders (33-21-6, 72 points) finished tied for first in the east with the Des Moines Buccaneers.

Tickets for this weekend’s playoff games are on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625, in person at the ice arena or on line at www.roughridershockey.com.
