Rider Alum Ricci Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week
<p>March 7, 2006- Former Cedar Rapids RoughRider captain Rob Ricci, now a freshman at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, has been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week.</p>
<p>Ricci, 21, earned the honor after collecting five points (two goals and three assists) as Merrimack split a pair of games with Providence last weekend. Ricci had one goal and one assist in the Warriors’ 5-3 loss last Friday. One night later, the Brampton, Ontario, native picked up two assists in regulation and then scored 34 seconds into overtime to give Merrimack a 4-3 win in its final game of the season.</p>
<p>Ricci (10-16-26) finished the campaign as the team leader in points and assists.</p>
<p>Ricci, who spent two seasons in Cedar Rapids, was part of the Riders’ 2004-05 Clark Cup winning team. He finished last season as the team’s second-leading point scorer, scoring 26 goals and totaling 60 points in 59 games. Ricci, who played 119 career games for the Riders, ranks third in team history in career goals (43) and points (99). </p>
<p>The RoughRiders (28-18-5, 61 points) are in second place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division. The Riders take on the Indiana Ice this evening at at 7:05 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</p>
<p>Tickets for all RoughRiders home games- including tonight’s- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days, including this Saturday.
