Game Summary: March 1, 2006: RoughRiders 5 Chicago 3
<p>March 1, 2006- Al Stalock made 49 saves and five different RoughRiders scored as the Riders defeated the host Chicago Steel 5-3 Wednesday night.</p>
<p>Stalock was at his busiest in the first period, making 20 saves while the Riders built a 2-0 lead.</p>
<p>Andy Miele opened the scoring at 7:24 of the first with a breakaway goal. </p>
<p>At 12:23 Ted Purcell cut into the goalmouth and lifted the puck over Chicago goaltender Eric Pfligler to double the lead.</p>
<p>The Steel would rebound to even the score in the second period. Chicago was on the power play when Chris Clackson tipped a Sami Liimatainen drive past Stalock to cut the Riders lead to one at 4:40 of the second.</p>
<p>Midway through the period, Mike Embach fired the puck home from the slot to even the score at two apiece.</p>
<p>The Riders quickly responded with a pair of goals just under three minutes apart. The Riders’ retook the lead when Steven Kaunisto’s shot from the left point squirted under Pfligler at 13:58. After Kaunisto’s goal, Jared DeMichiel replaced Pfligler in the Chicago net.</p>
<p>The Riders soon solved the Steel’s relief netminder as Jordan Pietrus snapped a loose puck home from the left wing circle to stretch the lead to 4-2 at 16:50.</p>
<p>Mike Janda’s goal at 4:58 of the third period narrowed the gap to one goal and sparked the Steel’s hopes for another comeback.</p>
<p>Those hopes were dashed just two minutes and 16 seconds later however, as Gary Steffes charged into the goalmouth to bury a Jacob Cepis centering feed and extend the Rider lead to 5-3.</p>
