RoughRiders Alum Fallon Named National College Defensive Player Of The Week
<P>November 3, 2004- Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders goaltender Joe Fallon, now a freshman at the University of Vermont, has been named USCHO/ITECH National Defensive Player of the Week.</P>
<P>Fallon, 19, made 69 saves over two games as Vermont picked up a win and a tie on the road against the top ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth last weekend. Fallon made 29 saves to backstop the Catamounts to a 3-2 victory over UMD last Friday night. The following evening The Bemidji, Minnesota, native stopped 40 shots to help Vermont to a 2-2 tie with the Bulldogs.</P>
<P>So far this season Fallon has gone 2-2-1 in five games with a 2.79 goals against average, a .905 save percentage and one shutout.</P>
<P>Fallon spent two standout seasons with the RoughRiders before heading to Vermont. In 84 career games as a Rider, Fallon went 45-28-8 with a 2.66 goals against average, a .909 save percentage and six shutouts. Last season Fallon posted some of the best goaltending numbers in the United States Hockey League, going 25-13-2 while turning in a 2.73 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and four shutouts.</P>
<P>Fallon is one of more than 40 former RoughRiders who have gone on to the Division I college ranks since the team’s arrival in Cedar Rapids just over five years ago. Six current RoughRiders have also already made college commitments.</P>
<P>This year’s edition of the RoughRiders (7-1-1, 15 points) is in first place in the USHL’s East Division. The Riders also currently boast the league’s best winning percentage (.833).</P>
<P>The RoughRiders return to action with a pair of road games this weekend. The Riders will take on the Omaha Lancers Friday night and collide with the Tri-City Storm Saturday evening. The RoughRiders’ next home game is Saturday, November 13 at 7:05PM when the Green Bay Gamblers visit the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</P>
<P>Tickets for all remaining RoughRiders first half home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.</P> |
