RoughRiders’ Costello Commits to Northeastern

<P>February 2, 2006- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Chad Costello has committed to Northeastern University, the RoughRiders announced today. </P> <P>&#8220;This is obviously great news for Chad,&#8221; said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson &#8220;He&#8217;s a player we were excited about bringing in this season and he has done a great job for us since he&#8217;s been here.&#8221;</P> <P>Costello, 19, leads the United States Hockey League in point scoring (51), is tied for second in assists (31) and is tied for sixth in goals (20). Costello is one of seven RoughRiders who will play in next Tuesday&#8217;s USHL All-Stars/Prospects Game in Sioux City.</P> <P>Costello was selected by the RoughRiders in the fifth round of the May, 2005 USHL draft with the forty-sixth overall choice after playing for the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the North American Hockey League last season. </P> <P>Costello finished the 2004-05 season tied for eighth in the NAHL in goals (29) and tied for ninth in points (34). </P> <P>The Johnston native returned to the USHL this season after playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers two years ago. He is the first Iowa native to ever play for the RoughRiders.</P> <P>Costello will be joined by RoughRider teammate David Strathman at Northeastern next season. The Huskies have gone 1-13-5 in Hockey East play this season and are 1-18-5 overall.</P> <P>Costello joins Strathman, Phil Axtell (Michigan Tech), Jacob Cepis (Bowling Green), Ray Kaunisto (Northern Michigan), Steven Kaunisto (Lake Superior State), Ryan Gunderson (Minnesota State-Mankato), Andy Miele (Miami of Ohio), Ted Purcell (Maine), Nik Sellers (Lake Superior State), Alex Stalock (Minnesota-Duluth), Gary Steffes (Miami of Ohio) and Kevin Wehrs (Minnesota) as the thirteenth member of the 2005-06 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.</P> <P>The RoughRiders (23-12-4, 50 points), who are in second place in the USHL&#8217;s East Division, return to action with a pair of games this weekend. The Riders meet the Lincoln Stars Friday night and take on the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday evening. Both games start at 7:05.</P> <P>Tickets for this weekend&#8217;s games- and all remaining RoughRider home games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 including a 50-cent facility fee.</P>
