The Riders shut out the Green Bay Gamblers 5-0 last Friday and suffered a 4-1 loss to the Indiana Ice last Saturday.<o:p></o:p> The Riders are tied with the Des Moines Buccaneers for first place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division. The Riders can take over sole possession of first place with a win at Tri-City tomorrow.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ Al Stalock went 131:30 without giving up a goal until being scored upon by <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State>’s John Kemp 4:08 in the first period of Saturday’s game. Stalock came up 15:13 short of matching Bobby Goepfert’s team record for longest shutout streak (146:43). Stalock leads the league in save percentage (.937).<o:p></o:p> With a goal and an assist in last Friday’s game, the Riders’ Chad Costello (20-31-51) became the first player in the USHL to crack 50 points this season. Costello also ranks second in assists.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ Ted Purcell (12-36-48) tied a team record with four assists in last Friday’s game. Purcell, who also assisted on the Riders’ only goal in last Saturday’s game, leads the USHL in assists and ranks second in points. <o:p></o:p> The Riders, who have scored a league high 50 power play goals and rank second in power play percentage (22.4), have scored ten goals on their last 33 power plays.<o:p></o:p> The Storm fell 5-2 at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City></st1:place> last Saturday, a loss that ended Tri-City’s three game winning streak. The Storm started the week with a 4-0 win over <st1:City w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:City> last Tuesday and defeated <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> 2-1 last Friday.<o:p></o:p> Tri-City has gone just 4-7-1 in its last dozen games. The Storm is three points behind third place <st1:City w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:City> and is five points ahead of fifth place <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> in the West Division.<o:p></o:p> The Storm has won its last three home games.<o:p></o:p> Tri-City averages 2.8 goals per game, second fewest in the league.<o:p></o:p> Slovak Jaroslav Markovic (20-21-41) is the Storm’s top scorer. Markovic is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals (4).<o:p></o:p> Tri-City goaltender Aaron Rock leads the league in shutouts (5) and minutes played (1763:49) and ranks third in goals against average (2.18).<o:p></o:p> The Storm is easily the least penalized team in the league. Tri-City players spend an average of just 15.4 minutes in the penalty box per game.<o:p></o:p> The Stars suffered a regulation defeat and a shootout loss last week on home ice. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:place></st1:City> edged the Stars 4-3 last Tuesday. <st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City> slipped past <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City> 3-2 in a shootout last Friday. The Stars had won four straight games prior to last week’s setbacks.<o:p></o:p> The Stars’ Mike Davies (19-26-45) ranks third in the league in point scoring. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City>’s Eli Vlaisavljevich (12-27-39) leads USHL defensemen in points.<o:p></o:p> The Stars have won their last three road games.<o:p></o:p> The Musketeers were shut out by the Storm last Wednesday before sweeping a pair of games from visiting <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Chicago</st1:place></st1:City> over the weekend. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> scored a 3-2 win last Friday and came away with a 5-3 victory the following evening. The two wins came after the Musketeers’ had dropped their prior three games.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> is in the midst of a three game road losing streak.<o:p></o:p> The Musketeers surrender a league high average of four goals per game.<o:p></o:p> The Musketeers have struggled on special teams at times this season. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> ranks tenth on the power play (13.0 percent) and ninth in penalty killing (78.1 percent).<o:p></o:p> The Musketeers average 23.1 minutes in penalties per game, second most in the league.<o:p></o:p> Sam Gagner (9-25-34), the son of long time National Hockey Leaguer Dave Gagner, is the Muskies’ top point producer.
