RoughRider Alum Miskovic Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

January 16, 2006- Former Cedar Rapids RoughRider defenseman Zach Miskovic, now a freshman at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, has been named ECAC Hockey League Rookie of the Week.

Miskovic, 20, helped St. Lawrence to back-to-back road wins last weekend: a 4-3 victory over Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute last Friday and a 3-0 shutout of Union College last Saturday. Miskovic scored his first collegiate goal in the win over Union and finished the weekend with a plus/minus rating of +2. On Saturday evening Miskovic also played a key role for a Saints penalty kill unit that staved off eight Union power plays without surrendering a goal.

On the season, Miskovic has totaled nine points and posted a plus/minus of +3 in 22 games. He has been a consistent contributor as tenth-ranked St. Lawrence (14-7-1 overall, 8-2-0 conference) has raced into the top spot the ECAC Hockey League.

Miskovic finished his RoughRider career on a high note last spring by helping the Riders to the United States Hockey League's Clark Cup title. In three junior seasons Miskovic never missed a regular season game. In addition to holding the club record for most consecutive games played (180), The River Forest, Illinois, native also ranks second in team history in total games- consecutive or otherwise. Miskovic scored 12 goals and totaled 49 points during his junior career.

Miskovic is one of three former Riders who earned collegiate honors this week. Massachusetts-Lowell senior forward Danny O'Brien was named CCM/RBK Hockey East Player of the Week, while Vermont sophomore goaltender Joe Fallon was tabbed as Hockey East's Pure Hockey co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Miskovic is just one of more than 50 former RoughRiders who have gone on to the Division I college ranks since the team's arrival in Cedar Rapids in 1999. 12 current RoughRiders have also already made college commitments.

This year's edition of the RoughRiders (20-9-3, 43 points) is in second place in the USHL's East Division. The RoughRiders return to action Wednesday evening when they visit the league leading Sioux Falls Stampede. Wednesday's game is the first of three this week for the Riders, who will meet the Des Moines Buccaneers in Urbandale Friday evening before returning home to take on the Chicago Steel Saturday night at 7:05.

Tickets for Saturday's game- and all remaining RoughRider home games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com.
