Purcell Breaks RoughRider Career Assist Record
<p>January 14, 2006- Ted Purcell broke the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' career assist record last night as he picked up his seventy-fifth and seventy-sixth assists for the team in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Omaha Lancers at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. </p>
<p>Purcell assisted on David Strathman's power play goal at 7:18 of the first period to tie Jon Grabarek's old record of 75 career assists. Purcell notched his second assist of the opening period- the record breaker- on a Chad Costello power play goal at 15:58.</p>
<p>The record setting assist was Purcell's league-leading twenty-ninth of the season. Purcell (12-29-41) is also tied for third in the league in point scoring. Purcell has piled up nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his last five games.</p>
<p>Purcell, now in his second season with the Riders, has also scored 32 goals and totaled 108 points in 87 career games. The 20-year old is on pace to break Grabarek's team career point scoring record (129).</p>
<p>Purcell, a native of St. John's, Newfoundland, is also within striking distance of the RoughRider single season assist and point scoring records he set last year as he rang up 47 assists and totaled 67 points. </p>
<p>Purcell was a Second Team All-USHL selection in 2004-05 and will play in his second straight USHL Prospects/All-Star Game on February 7 in Sioux City.</p>
<p>Purcell and the RoughRiders return to action tonight at 7:05 as they face the Chicago Steel at the Cedar Ice Arena. The Riders (20-9-3, 43 points) head into this evening's contest in second place in the United States Hockey League's East Division. </p>
<p>Tickets for tonight's game- and all remaining RoughRider home games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 including a 50-cent facility fee.</p> |
