<P>January 7, 2006- Phil Axtell broke loose for two power play goals and one assist and Ryan Gunderson also scored a pair of goals as the host RoughRiders defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks 5-1 Saturday night.</P>
<P>Three of the Riders' goals came on the power play in what was a penalty filled game. The Riders enjoyed a whopping 13 man advantages, while the Black Hawks went on the man advantage nine times.</P>
<P>Axtell opened the scoring at 8:57 of the first period by sweeping home a Nik Sellers centering pass.</P>
<P>The Hawks responded with a power play goal of their own at 13:25 of the first. Jacob Schuster's shot from the left point was deflected past Riders goaltender Al Stalock. That was the only time the Hawks would beat Stalock, who went on to finish the evening with 39 saves.</P>
<P>The Riders retook the lead for good at 3:55 of the second period when Gunderson fired an Axtell feed just under the cross bar from the left wing circle.</P>
<P>At 7:01 of the second the Riders were again up a man when Axtell barreled into the goalmouth and swept the puck past sprawling Waterloo netminder Joe Grossman (29 saves) to extend the lead to 3-1.</P>
<P>The Riders finished with a flourish, adding two more goals late in the third period. Andy Miele buried a Dustin Cloutier feed from the doorstep to stretch the margin to three at 14:12 of the third.</P>
<P>After a series of late Black Hawks penalties resulted in a two man advantage for the Riders, Gunderson capped off the night by roofing the puck from the doorstep with just 2.8 seconds left in the game.</P>
