RoughRiders Alum Fallon Named Hockey East Player of the Week
<p>January 3, 2006- Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders goaltender Joe Fallon, now a sophomore at the University of Vermont, has been named CCM/RBK Hockey East Player of the Week.</p>
<p>Fallon, 20, posted back-to-back shutouts last weekend to backstop UVM to victory in the Catamount Cup tournament. Fallon stopped 18 Dartmouth shots in a 1-0 win last Friday and made 19 saves one night later as Vermont downed Clarkson 3-0. </p>
<p>On the season, Fallon has gone 11-4-1 for the fourth-ranked Catamounts. Fallon is tied for first in the nation in shutouts (4) and ranks fifth in goals against average (1.61). The Bemidji, Minnesota, native has also turned in a superb .915 save percentage.</p>
<p>Fallon spent two standout seasons with the RoughRiders before heading to Vermont. In 84 career games as a Rider, Fallon went 45-28-8 with a 2.66 goals against average, a .909 save percentage and six shutouts. In 2003-04, his final season in Cedar Rapids, Fallon posted some of the best goaltending numbers in the United States Hockey League, going 25-13-2 while turning in a 2.73 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and four shutouts.</p>
<p>Fallon is one of more than 50 former RoughRiders who have gone on to the Division I college ranks since the team's arrival in Cedar Rapids in 1999. 14 current RoughRiders have also already made college commitments. </p>
<p>This year's edition of the RoughRiders (18-9-2, 38 points) is in second place in the USHL's East Division. The RoughRiders return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against the arch rival Waterloo Black Hawks. The Riders will visit Waterloo Friday night before returning home to take on the Hawks Saturday evening at 7:05.</p>
<p>Tickets for Saturday's game- and all remaining RoughRider home games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 including a 50-cent facility fee.</p> |
