RoughRiders' Affiliate Players Bound for Top College Programs

<p>December 15, 2005- Three of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' affiliated players- players selected by the Riders in September's United States Hockey League futures draft- have already made college commitments, the RoughRiders announced today.</p> <p>Forward Greg Squires is bound for Boston University, forward Tommy Wingels will play his college hockey at Miami of Ohio and forward Jordan Baker will skate for Michigan Tech. While affiliated players are not currently on the RoughRiders' roster, the Riders do control their USHL rights. </p> <p>The Riders took Squires with the fourth overall pick of the futures draft. The 17-year old White Plains, New York, native plays for the U.S. National Team Development Program's Under-18 team. So far this season, Squires has scored four goals and totaled 16 points in 25 games with the Under-18 team.</p> <p>Wingels, 17, is currently playing midget hockey for Team Illinois. The Wilmette, Illinois, product was chosen in the second round of the futures draft with the fifteenth pick.</p> <p>Wingels and Squires both excelled in last summer's USA Hockey Select-17 Festival in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Wingels had three goals and eight points in six games to help Team Red to a festival best 5-0-1 record. Squires scored two goals and added four assists in six games with Team Teal. </p> <p>Baker, 17, has already notched 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 25 games with the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Chestermere, Alberta, native was tabbed in the fourth round of the futures draft with the thirty-seventh selection. In 43 games with the Grizzlies last season, Baker produced nine goals and 24 points.</p> <p>Squires, Wingels and Bakers are among the Riders' total of six affiliated players, along with forward Jason Bergeron and defensemen Colin Trachsel and Jared Spurgeon. </p> <p>The Riders will play their final two games before the USHL's holiday break this weekend. The Riders visit the Green Bay Gamblers tomorrow night and take on the Indiana Ice Saturday evening in Indianapolis. Coach Mark Carlson's team next takes to the ice at home on Thursday, December 29, when the Gamblers visit Cedar Rapids.</p> <p>Tickets for all remaining Rider home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625, in person at the ice arena or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee. </p>
